They All Fall Down

The Taller They Are, The Harder They Fall
Okay I really just thought of that. I know what the usual saying is, but you are here, right? Well, since you brought it up. Yes, we are talking about models and the runway. Most models are very graceful walking the catwalk, their falls are not so graceful. It is very difficult being a model because (I will say it) she must wear clothes that she will never be caught dead in. Hairstyles that are impossible to re-create, and the infamous high heels that are not even made for walking in.

High Heels are Evil
Some high heels are dangerous. In the mid 1500s, Chopines became popular in Venice, shoes that reached height of 24 inches. High heels make the foot unstable, and put stress on ligaments, but in the fashion industry the illusion of longer, more slender, and tone legs are better. Heals have gone from a kitten heel (1 ½ inches) to a stiletto or spike heel (4 inches or more). Podiatrists are seeing more patients with severe foot problems. High heels can cause foot pain, increase the likely hood of sprains and fractures, and create foot deformities.
High Heels and Fashion
Today, fashion trumps comfort. The United States opened its first manufacturing company in 1888. In 1954, Roger Vivier designed the first stiletto heel for the house of Dior. Stiletto is an Italian word that means a small metal dagger. For many years, several well-known brand names in the fashion industry have been designing ladies footwear merging with high fashion. Technology and nature offer new materials and new ways to combine them. High heels project elegance and sophistication, which is why they will never go out of fashion.
Remedies to reduce stressed foot conditions:
  • Yoga helps with balance
  • Stretch and relax often
  • Break the shoes in (wear for an hour)
    • If you feel pain at the ball of your feet, pad them, and do it before the 1st time you were them
  • As you step, straighten and extend your leg
  • Prep your shoes for slippery floors (use grip pads or sandpaper on the bottom of your shoes)
There is nothing like a sexy pair of awesome high heels, but only if you can walk in them.
